Description
This row of cottages, originally four but now three dwellings, dates from the 18th century and was enlarged in the 19th century. The cottages are rendered over cob with a random rubble blue lias extension at the rear. They feature a thatched roof that is hipped to the right, with ridge tiles and brick stacks located at the left gable end, the centre right junction, and rising from the eaves on the rear of the half-hipped wing of No 39. The cottages have an irregular "L"-shaped plan and were originally single-cell dwellings. They are one and a half storeys tall with scattered 19th-century windows, including 2-light dormer casements and ground floor 2- and 3-light casement windows, along with plank doors that are sheltered by slate pentice hoods. This picturesque and irregular group of thatched cob cottages presents a charming appearance.
