Description

Duck's Puddle is a cottage that has been divided and dates back to the 16th century, with alterations made around 1600. The exterior is roughcast over rubble, featuring a thatched roof, brick stacks at the gable ends, and a large external stepped stack with a brick chimney located in the center of the facade. There is also a slate-roofed bread oven projection.

The building is designed as an open hall house that has been ceiled and is now arranged as three cells with a cross passage, set into a hillside. It has one and a half storeys and is composed of two bays on the front and two bays on the side. The windows are 2-light leaded casements, with two 2-light casement windows on the ground floor to the right and a 3-light window in the outer bay to the left. A plank door is located to the left of the stack. There is a single-storey, one-bay lean-to addition on the right side, covered with pantiles.

Although the interior was not viewed, it is reported to contain arch-braced joint cruck trusses with some remains of wind bracing, which are partly smoke blackened. The interior also features chamfered beams with step and run-out stops, a stud and panel screen to the left of the cross passage with a shouldered flat-headed doorway, and a superior stud and panel screen on a low stone base to the right, along with a four-centred arch doorway.
