SP24NW Barn, shed and cottage approx. 70m 1912-1/6/177 south of Church of St Mary 09/09/92

Tithe barn with attached open-fronted shed and cottage. c1826. Brick with some narrow-coursed blue lias rubble; partly renewed tile roof. EXTERIOR: 5-bay barn has 2 threshing floors with paired plank doors with strap hinges; some square ventilation holes. Owl hole to west gable. Open-fronted shed to south side right end has half-hipped gable; rear and end walls are rubble; weatherboarded gable; front has 2 brick piers with rounded angles. Cottage to south side left end is much altered with renewed roof and altered and inserted openings; blocked segmental-headed entrance to rear has key block dated 1826. INTERIOR: queen-post trusses with principals truncated at collar; tie beams resting on brick piers, that to north side with rounded angles. Cottage interior not inspected. The barn has important group value as it stands near to the church of St Mary on the site of a village deserted in the late C15 and early C16.
