Description

This building complex consists of a tithe barn, an attached open-fronted shed, and a cottage, located approximately 70 meters south of the Church of St Mary. The structures date from around 1826 and are constructed of brick with some narrow-coursed blue lias rubble, topped with a partly renewed tile roof.

The exterior features a five-bay barn that includes two threshing floors, each with paired plank doors fitted with strap hinges, and several square ventilation holes. There is an owl hole located in the west gable. The open-fronted shed on the south side has a half-hipped gable, with its rear and end walls made of rubble and a weatherboarded gable. The front of the shed is supported by two brick piers with rounded angles.

The cottage at the left end of the south side has undergone significant alterations, including a renewed roof and modified openings. A blocked segmental-headed entrance at the rear has a key block that is dated 1826.

Inside the barn, there are queen-post trusses with principals truncated at the collar, and tie beams that rest on brick piers, with the pier on the north side also featuring rounded angles. The interior of the cottage has not been inspected.

This barn has notable group value as it is situated near the Church of St Mary, on the site of a village that was deserted in the late 15th and early 16th centuries.
