Description

This is a barn with an attached cart shed located opposite the Church of St Peter in Binton. It dates from the 18th century, with some 19th-century alterations. The structure is built from narrow coursed blue lias rubble and features a gabled tile roof that is half-hipped at one end.

The barn has approximately six bays and an entrance to the left of the center, which includes low paired doors with strap hinges and weatherboarding above. There is a pitching hole towards the right end. The cart shed, located at the right end, displays alternate wide and narrow courses of rubble. The right gable of the barn features a square opening for an owl hole, while the gable of the cart shed has a shuttered square opening.

At the rear, there is a large porch with a half-hipped and weatherboarded gable. The stable to the left has a segmental-headed entrance and two segmental-headed windows, with a pitching hole above. There is also a re-entrant brick catslide outshut. The cart shed is open-fronted, consisting of six bays supported by timber posts.

Inside, the barn has tie beam and collar trusses with wind braces, while the shed features 19th-century king post trusses with raking struts. This building is important to the setting of the church.
