Description
This building is a barn and stable located immediately east of Church Bank Farmhouse in Binton. It dates from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The structure is primarily timber-framed, featuring some brick and rubble, with weatherboarding and an old tile roof. It has a long rectangular plan consisting of seven bays, with a stone addition on the right side and a cross-wing at the left end.
The exterior showcases square framing with brick infill, stone walling at the left end, and brick walling at the right end, all topped with weatherboarding. The entrance to the threshing floor has paired doors fitted with strap hinges, while there is a wide-boarded door to the right and a brick lean-to outshut with three ventilator doors. A 20th-century window is present at the right end. The stone addition features a brick lean-to outshut, a return buttress, and a weatherboarded gable. The cross-wing has brick infill within the square framing and a 20th-century shed attached. Its entrance has paired doors and a door on the first floor, along with a hipped end and a catslide outshut to the return. The rear includes a wing projecting under a hipped gable, but much of it is obscured by a large 20th-century shed.
Inside, the barn features wall studs, an arch-braced tie beam, and collar trusses with wind braces.
