Description
This building is a barn and attached stable located approximately 15 meters west of Common Farmhouse. The barn dates from the 17th century and was partly rebuilt in the 18th century and early 19th century. The stable and the additional building are from the late 18th century or 19th century. The barn is timber framed with brick infill and weatherboarding, topped with a tiled roof. It features four days and central wide plank doors, along with a plank door in the first bay and two shuttered openings. The rear wall has been rebuilt, partly in 18th century and partly in 19th century red brick. Inside, there is a retaining wall and braces, a queen strut roof, and additional 19th century roof trusses. The attached stable and building on the left are made of red brick and have a tie roof in an L-plan, with a wing at the rear. The stable at the front has two doors and two small fixed light windows, with brick segmental arches. There is a large half-darner hayloft door on the left side, which also has a gable with brick corbelling and a dovecote featuring brick openings and landing platforms. The building beyond has been altered, with two 20th century garage doors inserted. The end wall has a blocked opening and a pitch door with brick segmental arches, along with a stable parapet and kneelers. This structure is included for its group value with Common Farmhouse.
