Description
Highland Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse that features a front range with a sundial dated 1695 and the initials WRD above the door. The back range may date from the 17th century. The building underwent alterations and additions in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of whitewashed brick, with the front range displaying a brick string course and a moulded plaster eaves cornice. The rear wing is timber framed with lath and plaster and has whitewashed brick infill, mostly underbuilt in whitewashed brick. The roofs are covered with old tiles, and the front range has gable parapets along with whitewashed brick external stacks.
The farmhouse has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, featuring a two-window range. The central entrance has a mid-19th century ribbed and studded door with a simple tile hood above. The ground floor windows are 19th century sashes, with a 16-pane window to the left and a 20-pane window to the right. There are remnants of brick segmental arches above these windows. The attic includes two mid-19th century roof dormers with casements that have glazing bars and decorated bargeboards. The stacks have a string course and offsets, with square brick shafts added in the 19th century. The left return side of the wing shows some exposed framing, and the rear features jowled posts and additional exposed framing at the gable of the wing. The interior has been partially inspected, revealing a room at the rear with a heavy ceiling beam and joists.
