Description

Moat House Farmhouse and Moat Cottage is a former manor house that has been converted into two houses. It dates from the late 16th century and 17th century, with alterations and additions from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The building is timber framed with whitewashed brick infill and is underbuilt in whitewashed brick. It features a tiled roof with brick ridge and end stacks. The complex plan consists of two storeys and an attic, with a two-window range. There is a 20th-century plank door with a tile hood, and one-light casements on both the left and right sides. A window at ground level is located on the right, while a three-light window is on the left. The building has 19th and 20th-century casements with glazing bars throughout. The left return side, faced in whitewashed brick, has an external stack, and there is a wing to the rear with a brick dentil cornice and a one-window range featuring brick segmental arches. The right return side has a large first-floor window and a rendered gable. At the rear, the right wing shows exposed framing on the first floor and gable, with one jowled post, while the left gable also has framing. There are 19th-century casements present. The interior has not been inspected. The right side has 20th-century additions or alterations that include sham framing and a porch. This building was originally the manor house of the manor of Mappleborough Green or Studley Hay.
