Description

Place House Farmhouse, also known as Moat Cottage, is a house that was likely built in the 16th century and altered in the 20th century. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features a thatched roof with stone end stacks. The building has a T-shaped plan and is two stories high with a three-window range.

The central entrance consists of a plank door framed by a Tudor-arched wooden surround and a wooden lintel, situated within a 20th-century glazed porch. To the far right on the ground floor, there is a small one-light window with a pointed arched stone surround and a wooden lintel above. On either side of the door, there are three-light leaded hollow-chamfered stone mullion windows, each with hood moulds. The first floor has similar windows, but they feature arched heads to the lights, cut spandrels, and moulded stone jambs set within eyebrow dormers.

An offset buttress is located at the left angle, and the left end has ironstone quoins and a stone-coped gable with kneelers. A wing projects to the rear right of the center, which includes two-light stone mullion windows, some of which have arched heads to the lights.

Inside, the farmhouse has chamfered spine beams, an open fireplace with a bressumer beam, and a collar truss roof. It may be a remnant of a larger house that once stood on this site or a new house constructed using materials from that earlier building.
