Description

This is a barn and adjoining cart shed located immediately east of Riversbridge Farmhouse, likely built in the 18th century or early 19th century, with repairs made in the late 19th century. The structure is constructed from local slate rubble and features a scantle slate roof with gabled ends. The cart shed on the right (south) has a lower roof with a hipped end.

The barn has a rectangular plan and is two storeys high, featuring a wide doorway on the front left with a large chamfered timber lintel, and a loft doorway at the centre with an old plank door that has strap hinges. The cart shed is single storey with a lower hipped roof and includes a three-bay open front supported by two timber posts and a large timber arcade plate. Some parts of the rear wall of the barn, including the top courses, appear to have been rebuilt.

Inside, the barn contains late 19th century scissor-braced softwood trusses. The cart shed has a similar roof structure, which may be slightly older if it has pegged apex joints.
