Description
The stables and coach house, located immediately north-north-east of Bowden House, date from the early 19th century, likely around 1823, coinciding with the remodelling of the house. Constructed from local slate rubble, the building features an asbestos slate roof with gabled ends.
The structure has a long rectangular plan, with the coach house situated at the left end. It includes a pair of doorways at the front, a loft above, and an integral stable at the right end, which has a doorway at the front and a hay loft above. Access to the lofts is provided from the rear, where the ground level is higher. Additionally, there is an open-fronted lean-to at the right end, possibly serving as a cart-shed.
The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical east front. The coach house on the left has a pair of doorways featuring 20th-century double doors, alongside a 19th-century six-pane pivot window to the left of an opening with a flat arch. Above the coach house doors, there are two small four-pane windows under the eaves. The stables on the right have similar six-pane windows and a doorway to the left with a plank door, both adorned with flat stone arches. Above the stables, there is a row of pigeon holes under the eaves. The rear elevation has doorways at the higher ground level. Inside, the stable stalls have been removed, but the staircase in the coach house remains.
