Description

This building is a barn that has been converted into stables, located to the south of the Parish Church of St. Mary Magdalene. It dates from the 18th century and underwent alterations in the late 18th century. The structure is timber framed and weatherboarded, sitting on a brick plinth, with an old tile roof that is half hipped. It consists of seven bays, with an additional bay added to the west for a groom's cottage.

The south elevation features two former wagon porches located in bays two and six, which are gabled and have 19th-century three-centred timber arches inserted. Between the cart entries, the eaves extend as a catslide over the aisle. The groom's cottage bay includes a two-light gabled dormer. On the north elevation facing the road, the cart entries have been boarded across and infilled with brick up to the plinth height, while the west entry has stone jambs. There is a truncated stack in the groom's cottage bay.

Inside, the tie-beams have been cut to create an upper storey, with trimming posts and curved tie-beam braces still visible. The interior features colourwashed rubblestone partition walls and a passage wall that were added during the conversion. There is a hayloft door on the east side with a swivelling hoist arm, and the roof is supported by double butt purlins.
