Description
Whitchurch Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around 1725, with later alterations. It is constructed of brick laid in Flemish bond, featuring some glazed headers and ashlar dressings. The roof is hipped and covered with old tiles, and there are brick stacks. The building is designed in an L-shape and has two storeys plus an attic, presenting a symmetrical five-window facade.
Notable exterior features include an ashlar and top cornice, a round-headed entrance with a doorcase that has pilasters and an open pediment. Above the six-panel door is a fanlight with radial glazing bars. The windows are fitted with brick aprons and have rubbed brick flat arches over 6/6 sash windows with flush wood frames. There are hipped dormers on the left and right returns. At the rear, there is a lower two-storey brick range, with the first floor being a c1900 addition.
The interior has not been inspected but is reported to have been altered, while still retaining contemporary front and back staircases. The farmhouse is believed to have originally served as the Dower House for Alscot Park.
