Description
Alderminster Farmhouse is a late 18th-century farmhouse, extended in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of red brick with a Welsh slate roof, stone-coped gables, and brick end stacks and a rear ridge stack. The symmetrical front facade has three bays and three storeys, plus a basement. A moulded brick cornice runs along the top. The doorway features a restored doorcase with pilasters and a consoled open pediment, above a fanlight and six-panel door. Windows have sills and rubbed brick flat arches; the ground floor has 16-pane sashes, the first floor has 12-pane sashes, and the second floor has 6-pane sashes, two of which have timber lintels. A window to the left return has a 16-pane sash. A flight of steps leads to a basement entrance on the right return. The rear has a two-storey, double-depth wing from the mid-19th century with unhorned 12-pane sashes and a door in a round-headed recess. The end of this wing features two gables; the ground floor to the left has a triple sash, and to the right a three-light casement. One right return has 12-pane, 16-pane, and one 8-pane sash windows, with a cross-axial stack. The interior includes a stick-baluster staircase with turned newels, a moulded handrail, and six-panel doors with architraves.
