Description
Middle Wymson Farm is a Grade II listed building located in Whitchurch, dating from the 16th or 17th century, with later alterations and 20th-century restoration. Originally two houses, it now functions as a single residence. The structure features a timber frame with brick infill, and the rear has been partly re-fronted in brick. It has a hipped thatched roof with a brick stack at the rear of the ridge and is designed in a U-plan.
The east elevation consists of a single storey plus an attic, with two gabled wings flanking a central glazed lean-to porch at the entrance. Above the porch is a small two-light raking dormer. The left wing is square-framed and has one window with a three-light leaded casement on each floor. The right wing is primarily brick and has been partly reconstructed, featuring 20th-century windows, including two single-light windows on the ground floor and a three-light casement above.
The left return of the left wing displays square framing with a blocked entrance, accompanied by a pair of windows to the left and one window to the right, all fitted with two-light casements. It also has two raking dormers with 20th-century casements flanking a narrow stair light. The right return features an entrance with a plank and stud door, along with varied fenestration, including a 19th-century segmental-headed window at the right end.
At the rear, the right end shows square framing, with a central canted bay window topped by a hipped thatch roof and featuring 1:3:1-light leaded glazing. To the left end is a 20th-century window with a three-light casement, and to the right is a window with a two-light casement. The first floor has a central raking dormer with a three-light casement, flanked by two windows with two-light casements, all with leaded glazing.
Inside, the building retains chamfered beams and timber-framed walls. The room in the southwest has a partition beam at the floor level without corresponding mortices in the ceiling beam, suggesting it may have been a cow house. The northeast wing features an exposed cut-through stone plinth and sill beam, indicating that this wing is a later addition.
