Description
The Castle is a house located on Mill Lane in Wimpstone, dating from the 17th century with an early 18th-century addition and later alterations. It features a timber-frame structure with plastered infill and some brick rebuilding at one end, as well as a brick wing set on a coursed rubble plinth. The roof is tiled and has brick end stacks, forming a T-plan.
The exterior is single-storey with an attic and consists of a three-unit range. The entrance is positioned to the left of the center and features a 20th-century door. To the right end, there is a segmental-headed entrance with a half-glazed door. The left end has a window with a 2-light small-paned casement. The central lean-to projection includes a 3-light casement with an iron opening casement, and above it, a raking dormer features a 2-light casement.
On the left return, there is a half-hipped gable, while the rear has a lateral stack and a blocked window. The wing has a coped gable with an end stack, a high stone plinth due to the slope of the ground, and a basement window. The first floor has a 2-light small-paned casement and a 2-light leaded casement. The right return has a blocked first-floor window, and the left return features a segmental-headed window with 2-light casements on each floor, one small-paned and one leaded.
Inside, there is a chamfered spine beam and an in-filled fireplace with a stop-chamfered bressumer. The roof timbers are exposed and include wind braces, while the wing contains a room with a stop-chamfered beam.
