Description

The Old Forge is a house that was once associated with a forge, which has since been demolished. It dates back to the 17th century, with later alterations and 20th century additions to the rear. The building features a timber frame with rendered infill set on a coursed limestone plinth, which is higher at the back due to the slope of the ground. It has a steeply pitched machine tile roof with brick stacks positioned cross-axially. The layout is L-shaped, with the front facing to the right.

The exterior consists of two storeys and a two-window range, with a later single-storey service range to the right. There is a re-entrant porch that includes a return entrance with a plank door and narrow windows fitted with 19th century lattice casements. On the first floor, there is a two-light small paned casement. The left wing features a 19th century hipped bay window with a 1:3:1-light glazing pattern and a triangular oriel above it. The inner return has a three-light leaded casement on the first floor. The left return has a high plinth and a lean-to outshut to the right, which has a dressed stone bulge beneath its lean-to roof. The rear of the building is similar in style, with varied window arrangements that include a hipped bay and two triangular oriels. The interior has not been inspected.
