Description

Quince Cottage is a house dating from around 1600, with alterations made in the 19th century. It features a timber frame with brick infill, some of which is plastered, set on a brick and stone plinth, with brick at one end. The cottage has a steeply pitched thatched roof, which includes a brick stack at the rear of the ridge and an octagonal end stack with a reconstructed shaft. The layout is a three-unit plan.

The exterior consists of a single storey plus an attic, with a three-window range. On the ground floor, there is a tall window at the left end and a small canted leaded oriel window. Above a 19th-century tile-roofed brick lean-to outshut, there is a dormer featuring a two-light small-paned casement. The ground floor also includes a tall two-light window and a higher three-light window, above which is a round-headed dormer with a two-light small-paned casement and a round-headed pane above it, along with a smaller dormer and a small first-floor light. To the right end is a 19th-century tile-roofed brick lean-to outshut.

The right return is made of brick and has an entrance with a 20th-century open gabled porch and door, along with a 20th-century small-paned glazed door to the right. Above this entrance, there are two windows with two-light leaded casements. There is also a brick tile-roofed lean-to on the left return.

At the rear, there is a 20th-century gabled porch and door located to the left of centre. The left end is brick and features a segmental-headed window with a two-light leaded casement and a blocked segmental-headed entrance. The right side has varied windows, including a two-light leaded casement with a small-paned light above, and four-light windows above and below a timber rail. There is also a two-light small-paned glazing with an iron opening casement at a former entrance, with a raking dormer above. A raking buttress with a small window above it is present, and the right end has a leaded light to the left of a glazed door, with a raking dormer above featuring small-paned glazing. The interior has not been inspected.
