Description

This is a late 16th-century barn situated to the west of Court Farmhouse and to the south of the Court House. The barn is constructed of random rubble limestone, with some areas roughcast rendered, and has a stone slate roof, with pantiles to a lean-to section. It is a five-bay barn with a lean-to addition to the north-west. The north-east side has roughcast rendering with exposed, irregularly coursed quoins. There's an off-centre barn doorway with a 20th-century sliding door, and a small slit vent to the left. A projecting rubble buttress is on the right. The south-east end features a parapet gable with a decorative, crocket finial. The south-west side has a barn doorway with a timber lintel and plank doors, flanked by buttresses. A high-level opening, also with a timber lintel, is located on the north-west end, alongside a lean-to with corrugated iron infill. Inside, the barn has a fine, 5-bay arched-braced collar-truss roof with arched windbracing to the lower tier of purlins. Inserted tie-beams are also present. The barn is part of a group that includes the contemporary Court House and Court Farmhouse.
