Description
The King's Head is a public house dating from around 1820. It is built of Flemish bond red brick, which has been painted, with coursed rubble limestone and features brick chimneys. The roofs are covered with plain tiles and Welsh slate. The building is two stories high with an attic and has a two-story out-building attached at the east end.
The front of the pub has a four-window arrangement with 16-pane sash windows that have gauged brick flat arches above them. There are late 20th-century shutters on the windows. The entrance is off-centre and features a round-arched doorway with a 20th-century plank door and glazing. Above, there are four small-paned gabled roof dormers. The front corners of the elevation are accented with stone quoins.
At the east gable ends, there are brick chimneys, and the east end has an off-centre attic casement with a timber lintel. The rear wing at the west end has been altered in the 20th century, and there are also 20th-century doors and windows inserted in the outbuilding at the east end, which was likely used as stables in the past. Various 20th-century additions have been made to the rear of the building, but these are not of special interest.
An inn has been recorded on this site since 1766, and it holds an important position at a road junction in the village.
