Description
Yew Tree Stores and Gleneva, previously listed as Post Office and 'The Yews', is a former medieval hall house that has been converted into two houses. The building dates from the 15th century, with possible earlier origins, and has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of large dressed uncoursed limestone, with ashlar chimneys that have been rebuilt in brick, and features a plain tile roof.
The front of the building includes a parapet-gabled wing that projects to the left, featuring a two-window arrangement on the ground floor, both of which are 20th-century casements with brick segmental arches. There is a single off-centre upper floor casement. A gable-mounted brick chimney is present. The main range to the right has a pointed-arched doorway at the angle with the wing, sheltered by a lean-to porch addition, which contains a plank door. To the right of this doorway is another entrance with a bowed porch hood, flanked by 20th-century casements with rendered lintels. The roof has three gabled dormers, with the larger one located to the left, and there are two ridge-mounted chimneys on the main range, one located on the parapet gable at the south end.
At the rear, the parapet-gabled cross wing to the right features casement windows on both the ground and upper floors. The main range has a gabled roof dormer with a 20th-century casement. Inside the former hall, there are three cruck trusses.
