Description

Virgins Living is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, constructed from ham stone with squared ashlar dressings and a Welsh slate roof featuring coped gables. It has brick chimney stacks at each end. The through passage was significantly modified in 1962. The south front is two stories high with four bays, while the north front has been altered to serve as the entrance facade. The ground floor features hollow chamfered mullioned windows with labels and unworked upper angle mitres, consisting of a 2-light window in bay 1, a 4-light window in bay 2, and a 3-light window in bay 4. There are 20th-century French doors beneath a new label in bay 3. Above, the steel casements in bays 1 and 2 have small pane cast iron casements in wooden frames with narrow centre deadlights, which are also repeated on the north elevation. The east gable has two mullioned windows, one with a label, and a small 17th-century stair window, with evidence of raising visible on the gable. A flat-roofed extension to the north is a remnant of an earlier wing, and on the west side of this extension, there is a lead pump dated 1856 still in place. Inside, there is a notable 17th-century fireplace with a cambered arch and incised spandrils on the east wall.
