Description
The Middle Chinnock War Memorial is a war memorial, likely erected by 1921, made from carved Ham stone. It is situated at the south-east corner of the churchyard of St Margaret's Church. The memorial stands on a square platform and features a square-based tapered pedestal with an octagonal shaft above, topped with a wheel cross. The base of the shaft includes a square plinth that supports a torus, which is adorned at the corners with a beak-style moulding that extends from the base of the shaft to the plinth. The upper section of the shaft has a plain octagonal annulet.
The east face of the pedestal is inscribed with the names of Arthur and Frederick Fry and Ernest Hockey, who were killed in action, along with a tribute to those from Middle Chinnock who served during the Great War from 1914 to 1919. The west face of the pedestal honors Sidney Ralph Langdon, who was killed in action during the Second World War from 1939 to 1943.
