Description

The village well, of uncertain date but possibly from the early 19th century, features a cover made of Ham stone slabs set within a local stone rubble surround. The cover consists of vertical slabs on three sides, topped with a raked slab, and a spindle remains in position between the slabs. The surrounding structure is made of coursed stone rubble and forms a former quarter circle, standing about 1 meter high above road level. The well itself is now sunken below road level and has become overgrown. This well is an important, though unremarkable, example of local significance, similar in design to the well located outside No. 1, Thatched Cottages, off Higher Street.
