Description
This is a terrace of nine cottages located on Higher Street, West Chinnock. The cottages were built in the early 19th century. They are constructed from local stone with squared blocks, incorporating dressings made from Ham stone. The roofs are covered in Welsh slate, with a stone slate base, and have coped gables. Brick chimney stacks are also present.
The cottages are arranged in a two-storey terrace of two-bay units, positioned at right angles to the road. Each cottage has an entrance door set into a cambered arched recess, which features incised spandrels beneath a label. Above the entrances are various later single-light windows. The original windows are mullioned, featuring two lights with four-centred heads, and have incised spandrels and labels. Most windows have cast iron diamond lattice inserts. There are similar mullioned windows in the north-facing wall of the terrace, overlooking the churchyard.
