Description
West Chinnock Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School is an early 19th-century building constructed of ham stone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a Welsh slate roof between coped gables. The main block is two stories high with two bays, and there is a single-story, two-bay wing on the west side. The school has two-light mullioned windows with four-centre arched heads, recessed spandrils, and labels above, with the ground floor windows being taller. The entrance is located between the first and second bays of the main block, but it is obscured by a 20th-century porch or lobby. Above the entrance, there is a stone plaque that reads "Church School 1833." On the east gable, there is a first-floor doorway that is boarded and studded, set in a cambered arched recess, with the school bell mounted on a bracket above. Below this, there is a 20th-century lean-to. The near-ashlar stone front boundary wall returns to the building's side and rear, varying in height from 0.75 meters to 1.6 meters. It features square ornamental capped piers and simple wrought iron railings that are 600 millimeters high, complete with scroll braces and some anthemion finials.
