Description
Harbottle Church of England Aided First School is a school building inscribed with the date 1834, indicating it was established as a National School. Constructed from ashlar stone, it features a Welsh slate roof. The building is single storey and consists of seven bays, with a prominent three-bay section that has a projecting cross-gable.
The entrance includes two leaf doors with four panels, surrounded by chamfered surrounds and segmental lintels, located in the second and sixth bays. The outer bays are fitted with two-light windows that have segmental heads and hoodmoulds, while the central section features similar three-light windows. Most of the original stone mullions have been replaced with wood.
The roof is gabled, complete with kneelers, ridged coping, and five corniced octagonal chimneys—two on the ridge, two at the ends, and one above the cross gable. The building is included in the listing for its historical significance.
