Description
The Court House is a cottage dating from the 17th or early 18th century, constructed from local stone rubble with Ham stone dressings. It features a thatched roof with coped gables and has brick chimney stacks at both ends and in the middle. The building is two stories tall and has six bays, with the main (south) elevation facing at a right angle to the road. It includes two- and three-light casement windows, mostly leaded, with several older examples. There are plain doorways with timber and stone slab porches at bays two and five. Although the interior has not been seen, a report from February 1983 mentions chamfered beams with step and run-out stops, one 17th century and one 18th century fireplace, fielded panel doors, and collar beam trusses. The origin of the name "Court House" is not explained.
