Description
Barwick School is a school building dating from 1840, with extensions added in the mid-20th century. It is constructed from local stone rubble with Ham stone dressings and features Welsh slate roofs between coped gables. The building has a two-unit plan and is one storey high. The taller, three-bay section includes a projecting entrance, while the east side has a two-bay lower section.
The entrance features an arched doorway with a label and is topped with a coped gable that has a shield plaque and a cross finial. The windows are notable, with four-light cusped arched windows and three-light windows in the lower section. The west gable has a small timber and slate pitched hood over the school bell, situated below a triple lancet window. Each gable end has a trefoil window, and the east gable features a triple lancet window with cast iron diamond lattice panes. The mid-20th century extensions to the northeast of the school do not detract from the character of the original building.
