Description

Key Farm House is a circa 1600 farmhouse with alterations from the 18th century. It is constructed of local stone rubble, mostly rendered, with dressings in Ham stone. The roofs are slate, with plain clay tiles and stone slate base courses, the west gable being gabled and the rest hipped. The chimney stacks are rendered. The house has a "U"-plan, with a main facade and a projecting porch on the fourth wing. The east elevation is of four bays, with ovolo moulded mullioned windows containing square leaded panes and headmoulds at both levels. The outer bays have four-light windows on the ground floor and three-light windows above; bays 3 and 4 have three-light windows on the ground floor and two-light windows above. A cambered arch doorway with a square label is centrally positioned in bay 2 of the east elevation. The north elevation also has four bays, with mostly two-light windows, and a projecting porch in bay 2, containing a cambered arched doorway and an old door with small sidelights in the returns. The interior is relatively simple and has seen few alterations. A room in the southeast corner has fine wall panelling dating to circa 1700. The staircase is from the early 19th century.
