Description

The Needle Obelisk is an obelisk located in Barwick, dating from around 1775. It is constructed from rough cut and coursed local stone, topped with a dressed stone cap. The obelisk has a square base measuring about 2 metres on each side and rises to approximately 12 metres in height. On the south face, there is a flat stone that stands about 4 metres high, but it does not bear any visible inscription. This obelisk serves as a boundary marker and is one of four that mark the Barwick Park estate, likely erected by John Newman.
