Description

Twindown Mead is a former farmhouse that may have origins dating back to the 16th century. The building features ham stone rubble on the southern portion and the northern outhouse, with ashlar stone in the center. It has thatch roofing between coped gables, while the outhouse has Welsh slate between its coped gables. There are brick chimney stacks at both ends and in the middle. The farmhouse has a two-room plan with a through passage, an added side room, and a granary wing, all spanning two storeys and comprising three bays with an extension.

The windows are hollow chamfered with mullions, featuring large leaded panes. The first bay has a three-light window with a label, and above it, there is a two-light window in a moulded recess. The second bay has a four-light window with a label below and an angled oriel window above, which consists of a one-two-one light configuration. The third bay has three-light windows both above and below, with the lower window also having a label. There is a 20th-century stone entrance porch located between the second and third bays, which has a plain doorway. The extension includes one bay of small pane 20th-century casements and a two-light hollow chamfer window at mezzanine level on the northern side, although the mullion has been removed and it lacks a label.

Inside, there are two end fireplaces with inglenooks, likely from the 17th century, one of which includes a bread oven. The interior also features several deep chamfered beams.
