Description

SHEPTON MONTAGUE CP ST73SW 6/280 Knowlerock Farmhouse II

Farmhouse. C17 origins. Local stone rubble with ashlar dressings; Welsh slate roof with gable overhangs; brick chimney stacks. Originally cruciform plan; 2 storeys with attic, single bay each face. East elevation now 4 bays, bay 2 projecting and bay 4 a C20 extension with plain clay tile roof. Horizontal bar casement windows except to upper bay 2, which is a 3-light reserve chamfer window without label, and to upper bay 3, a similar window with label and early leaded lights; segmental arched doorway cut into lower bay 3, part of label to former winow surviving. Further reserve chamfer windows to projection at rear, 2-light to first floor and single light to attic, this last with vertical iron bars. Inside large plain chamfered camber arched fireplace to North room, and fireplace with bowed timber arch in South room; collar truss roof frame, collars half-scarfed and bolted, purlins tenoned.
