Description

Toomer Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 18th century and 19th century, with some earlier fragments. It is constructed from local stone, featuring 18th century half coursed rubble on the north side and 19th century cut and squared stone with ashlar dressings on the south side. The roof is made of Welsh slate and has coped gables, with brick and cast stone chimney stacks.

The building has a 'U'-plan and is two storeys high with three bays on the north elevation. The outer bays are gabled and linked by a parapet. The windows are 2-light leaded casements with iron opening lights above in the outer bays, and below there is a steel casement and a small-pane casement, all set in plain openings with stone lintels. The central feature is a chamfered pointed segmental doorway with a pair of boarded and studded doors, above which is a worn Tudor cartouche of arms, situated beneath the top of a 15th century cusped window light.

On the south elevation, there are three bays with projecting outer wings and a string course between the floors. The windows here are also 2-light casements, but with arched tracery glazing bars. The central feature consists of a pair of glazed doors set under a deep lintel with a four-centre arch and incised carvings. On the west side of the 19th century portion, there are two blocked oeil-de-boeuf windows that are presumably reused. The 18th century portion features leaded casements. The interior has not been seen.
