Description

No. 1 Love Lane is a corner shop and house located in Ilminster, dating from around 1800. The building features incised stucco with a slate roof that is hipped at the corner, brick stacks on the gable ends, and stepped stone copings on the right (south) gable. It has a double-depth plan with a 20th-century rear extension to the south. The building is two storeys high.

The north front, which faces East Street, has a one-window range. The first-floor window includes fixed lights flanking a narrow sash, all with small panes, which is typical of the windows found on East Street. The ground floor features a shop window with four fixed lights, topped by a plain fascia that also serves as a lintel.

The west front, facing Love Lane, has a two-window range. The ground floor on the right has 8/8-pane sashes, while the first-floor left has a fixed four-pane window below what appears to be a former doorway, possibly an old entrance to the shop. The current door, located centrally to the right, is a six-panel door with glazing at the top. The first-floor right features a three-light casement, and the rear extension includes a three-light casement in the centre. The interior has not been inspected.
