Description
No. 36 is a house that has been converted into two shops, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of stucco, likely over limestone rubble, and features a gabled slate roof with brick stacks. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with a three-window range.
The left-hand shop has a projecting mid-20th century shop front with an early 19th century panelled pilaster to the right of the door. The right-hand shop has a 20th century shop front with a door to the right. On the first floor, there are three 6/6-pane sash windows with forward frames. The roof has a crested ridge, an off-centre ridge stack, and two end stacks.
There is also a notable feature: a stone gate pier approximately 9 feet tall, which is attached to the right front corner of the building. This pier is one of a pair that flank the entrance to the rear of the house on the right and has a moulded pyramidal cap with incised panels and a small plinth. The interior has not been inspected.
