Description

The Dolphin Inn is an 1840 public house located on the south side of Fore Street, Chard. It is constructed of stucco, likely over limestone rubble, with a painted stone plinth and a slate roof featuring stone copings to the gable ends. A brick stack is situated on the right gable. The building follows a double-depth plan with a later 19th-century rear extension.

The two-storey, two-window facade features narrow, flat raised architraves with keystones above all windows and a flat-arched carriageway to the right. The carriageway is stopped approximately 1.5 metres from the ground. A platband runs below the first-floor sills. To the left of the carriageway are tripartite sash windows with 6/6-pane sashes in the centres and above the carriageway entrance. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
