The Gazebo About 10 Metres North West Of Church Farmhouse

The Gazebo, located about 10 meters north-west of Church Farmhouse, is a gazebo that likely dates from the 18th century. It is constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, with Doulting ashlar quoins. The structure features a pyramidal roof covered with plain clay tiles and ridge-tile hips. It is two levels high and square in plan, with a plinth base. On the west side, there is a window that is partly bricked up and has a beaded surround. The north side has doors leading to the basement and upper ground floor, both of which are boarded. There is a small lower extension on the south side, along with a link wall to Church Farmhouse that stands about 2 meters high. The interior has not been seen. Although it was previously described as a granary, it is too small for that purpose. The south extension is said to be a privy, which is quite unusual in a farmhouse context. This gazebo appears to reflect 18th-century competition in grandeur between this farmstead and Charity Farmhouse.
