Description

ST53E LOVINGTON CP LOVINGTON VILLAGE 1/84 The Gazebo abouT 10 m north-west of Church Farmhouse

GV II

Gazebo. Probably C18. Local lias stone cut and squared with Doulting ashlar quoins; pyramidal roof with plain clay tiles and ridge-tile hips. Two-level, square on plan. Plinth base; west window, partly bricked up, has beaded surround; doors to basement and upper ground flow on north side, both boarded; small lower extension on south side, and link wall to Church Farmhouse (qv) about 2 m high. Interior not seen. Previously described on provisional list as a granary, but is really too small; the south extension said to be a privy - all very unusual in a farmhouse context, but it appears there was C18 rivalry in grandeur between this farmstead and Charity Farmhouse (qv). (VAG Report, unpublished SRO.1982).
