Description
Mammead, formerly known as Orchards, is a detached house dating from the 18th century and 19th century. It is constructed from local lias stone that is cut and squared, with double Roman clay tile roofs featuring plain coped gables on the south crosswing and brick chimney stacks. The house is two storeys high and has an irregular arrangement of six windows on the west side, with bay six being the end gable of the crosswing. The windows are horizontal bar casements with two and three lights, and they have exposed timber lintels. There are no windows in the upper bays one and three. In the lower bay five, there is a six-panelled door with a tiled hood across the angle, and lower bay three features French doors. The south elevation has three bays that match the west side, likely representing an earlier wing, and includes a single-storey flat round extension to bay one, along with a deep stone lintel above bay three. The interior has not been seen.
