Description
The war memorial, located at the junction of Old Bristol Road and Bridgwater Road, was erected in 1921 and repaired in 1983. Designed by Emery of Burnham-on-Sea, it is made of dressed stone and stands on a plain plinth that features an angle-buttress at each corner and a moulded cornice around the top. At each corner of the memorial, there are life-size figures representing a soldier, a sailor, an airman, and a marine, all depicted in military dress. The shaft of the memorial is tapering and chamfered, topped with a cruciform finial. The plinth is inscribed with the names of those who fell in service. This memorial is noted for its unusual and elaborate design.
