Description

No. 84 North Street is a semi-detached cottage that likely has origins from the 15th or 16th century, with later work from the 18th and 19th centuries. The building is constructed from cut and squared Ham stone, with the north gable made of cob and faced with brick. The roof features a combination of clay tiles between abutments and thatch, with a plain gable at the front and a half hip to the north. There is a brick chimney stack with a traditional baffle.

The cottage has two storeys and three bays. The upper bays one and two contain timber casements with three lights, while the lower bay two has a boarded door set within an open timber porch that has a corrugated iron roof. Bay three projects as a gable and features a two-light hollow chamfer mullioned window beneath a square label, along with a small three-light leaded casement above a timber lintel.

Although the interior was not seen, it is reported to have a central entry plan with a cross passage and two rooms. Inside, there are three deep flat chamfer beams with step and run-out stops, a wattle and daub partition, and signs of post and truss roof construction. At the time of the last survey in June 1985, the cottage was unoccupied and in poor condition.
