Description
No. 27, North Street, is a house likely dating from the late 18th century, situated at the end of a row. It is constructed of ham stone ashlar with plain clay tile roofing over stone slate base courses. The gables are stepped and coped, and the building has brick chimney stacks. The house is two storeys high and has three bays. It features mullioned windows with beaded and architraved surrounds; the windows in bays 1 and 2 are three-light, while bay 3 has a two-light window with horizontal bar casements. A wide, boarded and studded door is located in the lower bay of the second bay, set within an architrave and sheltered by a flat, lead-covered hood supported on wrought iron brackets. A lean-to garage with a raked coping to its south gable is also present. The interior of the property has not been inspected. Approximately three metres to the west of the house are boundary railings, set upon a low stone wall. These railings have cast iron bud tops and are supported by panelled end and gate piers with bell-hip caps, matching the gate opposite the front door. These elements contribute to the setting of the house and the overall street scene.
