Description

Moorlands House is an earlier 19th-century detached house located on North Street in Martock. The house is constructed of ham stone ashlar with brick chimney stacks. It has a double roof plan, presenting two storeys and three bays. Features include a plinth, a band course, plain parapets with moulded copings, and large-pane sash windows, with 12 panes to the lower sashes and 9 panes to the upper. The windows are set within plain openings and feature false keystones. A semi-circular arched recess, with a semi-circular plan and attached fluted Doric columns alongside, frames a part-glazed door, approached by three steps, in the lower bay of the second bay. The south-facing elevation is similar, but features a smaller recess for the doorway. A belvedere or observatory tower sits between the roofs. Window shutters inside suggest Regency-era detailing.
