Description
This is a pair of early 19th century cottages in a row, located on The Green in Martock. The cottages are built of ham stone ashlar, with a Welsh slate roof featuring a stepped coped gable on the west side and an abutment on the east. Brick chimney stacks are also present. The cottages are two storeys high and have an irregular three-bay fenestration. The windows are mullioned with beaded surrounds; the upper bays 3 and bay 2 have 3-light windows with horizontal bar inserts, while bays 1 and the upper bay 3 have 2-light windows of a similar design. The lower bay 2 has a pair of doorways recessed and surrounded by decorative beaded mouldings, with later part-glazed doors. The interiors remain uninspected. Approximately 3 metres south of the cottages are plain arrowhead-shaped metal railings set on a low stone wall, featuring cast iron heads on the standards. Matching gates are positioned opposite the doorways, and these contribute to the overall setting of the cottages.
