Description
The Old Bakehouse, located at No. 5 North Street, is a house with origins dating back to the 17th century, although it was modified in the 20th century. It is constructed from ham stone ashlar and features a plain clay tile roof adorned with bands of scallop tiles at both the top and bottom. The roof has an abutment to the south and a stepped coped gable to the north, with brick chimney stacks at each end.
The building is two storeys high and has three bays with irregular window arrangements. On the upper floor, there are two-light early 20th-century leaded casement windows with moulded stone cills, along with a matching window in the north return gable. The lower floor features a three-light hollow-chamfer mullioned window in bay three, which has a square label and leaded light infills. A similar window that was originally in bay one has been removed and replaced with a casement, but the label remains. Additionally, there is a two-light leaded casement window to the right of bay two. In the lower bay two, there is a boarded and studded door set in a slight recess with a plain surround. The interior of the building has not been seen.
