Description

The Barn to Fordhay House, with Barn Cottage, is located 10 metres east of the house and dates from the 18th century. It is constructed of local stone rubble with Ham stone dressings and features plain clay tiles over stone slate base courses between coped gables. The building is two storeys high and has nine bays, three of which are part of the cottage.

There are approach stairs to the upper floor on the south side, featuring an 'L' plan staircase with worn stone treads on a brick base and a wrought iron handrail. The east elevation includes two plain casement windows with external iron bars and a plain doorway, all situated below floor level. The three bays at the north end, which comprise the cottage, have 20th-century timber casements beneath exposed timber lintels. The roof structure consists of collar and tie braced roof trusses with double purlins, with some timbers being pit sawn. This barn is an important element in the group associated with Fordhay House.
