Description
The Pinnacles is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, with two main construction periods: from the mid to late 17th century and around 1800. The front wall is made of Hamstone in squared coursed ashlar, featuring banded courses on the right from the 17th century and uniform courses on the left from circa 1800, likely indicating a refacing. The rest of the walls are built of rubble. The house has a thatched roof with a decorative ridge and coped end gables, along with two brick gable end stacks. Originally, it had a three-unit plan with a cross passage, but it has been significantly altered in the late 20th century. A rear wing was added, which contains a dairy with a loft that was converted into a kitchen in the early 19th century.
The building is two storeys high with a three-window front. The entrance doorway, which leads to the former cross passage, has a flat cockbead stone surround dating to around 1800 and features a plain boarded door. On the left side, there is a three-light casement window with hollow chamfer stone mullions on each floor. The central bay has a two-light mullioned window on the ground floor, topped with an eared hoodmould. The other windows on the front are four-light timber framed casements.
Inside, the interior has been altered but still retains stop-chamfered beams and a mid to late 17th-century stone arched fireplace surround with hollow and ogee mouldings. There is also a bread oven associated with the chimney in the rear wing.
