Description

Weston House is a farmhouse dated 1637, constructed from local stone rubble with Ham stone dressings and topped with a stone slate roof featuring coped gables. The building has two storeys with an attic and consists of four bays. It is plinthed and has ovolo moulded mullioned windows, some with iron bars behind glass, arranged in 4-lights below and 3-lights above, all with labels. The entrance door, located between the second and third bays, is a modern boarded door set in a moulded cambered archway and is sheltered by a 19th-century porch.

At the rear, there is a partial 17th-century outshut and a projecting wing, with 20th-century windows in the west gable wall, while the east gable wall retains 17th-century windows on the first floor and in the attic. The rear elevation features a 17th-century porch with an inscription that has been rearranged, reading "R AND G ME FECIT 1637" on the door lintel. Although the interior has not been seen, it is reported to contain several 17th-century fireplaces, one of which has the inscription "RICHARDUS BATT ET GRACIA UXOR EIUS HANC AEDEM STROXERUNT ANNO DNI 1637" above it on the first floor. The interior also features ceiling beams with chamfers and scroll steps, as well as a stud and panel partition leading to the cross passage. Richard Batt, who built the house, was the Steward to the Portman family, significant landowners in the area.
