Description

Letterbox Cottage is a detached house located on Radipole Lane in Weymouth, dating from the 18th century. The building is constructed from rubble and features a thatched roof. It is a long, low structure that faces east, with its back wall positioned at the edge of the road, curving slightly at the southern end. The masonry displays four straight joints, indicating successive builds or infill work, and the roof is lower at the southern end.

The cottage has one-and-a-half storeys. The main facade, which overlooks the garden, includes various casement windows, primarily with horizontal bars. At the left end, there is a two-light window with small panes at the eaves of the lower roof, followed by two hipped stone gables that each have two-light casements above three-light windows at ground level. Centrally located between these gables is a two-light dormer above a plank door and another two-light window. On the right end, there are a pair of French doors and a three-light small-pane casement.

The long, low one-storey front facing the road features four square openings with very deep-set four-pane casements set on tiled sills. The half-hipped southern end has an early two-light iron casement window with leading, positioned above another similar casement and a very wide plank door with a ledge hood. The cottage has two ridge stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
