Description
Rye Cottage is a pair of cottages dating from the early 19th century, located on Radipole Lane in Weymouth. Constructed of rubble with a concrete tile roof, the building is positioned on a steep slope and forms an L-shaped group with No.2 to the right. The cottages are two storeys high and feature one and two windows.
No.4 has an early 15-pane cast-iron casement window in a blocked wider opening, along with a 2-light small-pane casement at the eaves level, situated above one small and one larger 12-pane sash window, all framed by segmental stone voussoirs. Centrally located is a 20th-century glazed door with a segmental head. No.6 has 20th-century three-light casement windows at each level and a 20th-century door to the right. There is a brick chimney stack on the left gable and at the division of the party wall. The interior has not been inspected. These cottages may have originally served as service accommodation for the more formal attached house, No.2.
